The Ethical Problems of Legalizing Marijuana

The Moral Issues of Legalizing Cannabis Essay

Are you aware that almost half the population in the us belongs in jail, by law on pot? It's accurate. In 2008 Time Journal reported that researchers had found much more than 42% of men and women surveyed in the United States had attempted marijuana at least once (Lynch, 2008). So if marijuana 2 so common in the United States, so why should it not become legalized? With this paper Let me discuss the two supporting and opposing positions on the legalization of cannabis. I will as well explore the moral and ethical opinions for legalizing marijuana.

Utilitarianism is the meaningful doctrine we should always action to produce the greatest possible balance of good above bad for everybody affected by the actions (Shaw & Craig, 62). A large number of supporters of marijuana will argue that simply by legalizing weed it would decrease the crime rate, which at the end of the day would be better for everyone. Offense and assault are significantly increased as a result of illegal buying and selling of marijuana. If we legalized marijuana, it would end the need for such lawbreaker behavior, just like marijuana smuggling, distribution, product sales, possession and usage. Yearly there is approximately 12 billion dollars invested in police officers, DEA, etc ., investigating and punishing marijuana users (Prislac, 2009). This funds could be used on more beneficial programs, just like Social Reliability or even more important criminals; terrorists. The opposition side could argue that whenever we legalized marijuana it would truly increase our crime charge because there will be no regulation. There would be even more people out there doing crimes since their judgment is reduced and they wasn't able to make realistic decisions. One of the greatest arguments against legalizing cannabis is that it impairs a person's judgment, which can be often then simply compared to regarding alcohol. The best way to compare the two of these drugs is always to look at the volume of fatalities linked to driving drunk of alcoholic beverages to that of...
